Ed, yeah, I think sparingly used (intentional) blown highlights and deeply creepy shadows have their place when trying to get across a mood/atmosphere – it’s been done very effectively with cinematography for donkey’s years (anywhere from Bladerunner to Amelie, and etc) but tends to get sneered at in the world of stills. Ah well.
He’s actually watching Barney (TV is high up on a wall mount) about 30secs after getting needled for blood, might explain his expression a bit.
I’m just glad he’s back home again is all. ;)
