Anyone else got the twin lens kit? Bought myself a Christmas present of it. Very happy so far though haven’t had the opportunity to use it much (weather/work/family etc).

Christmas present? :( The sun is still shining and the evenings still long and you’re talking Christmas already? I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised – my wife was out shopping yesterday and she said she saw someone going through the checkout with Christmas crackers in her shopping :!: I guess it’s only a matter of time before we skip summer altogether and just go from one Christmas to another. Nah, that will probably never happen – that would deprive the retailers to screw us for Easter and St. Patricks days as well as Mothers Day, Fathers Day and possibly Halloween. I suppose we could just roll all of these days into one week and be done with the shopping frenzy that seems to accompany our festivity and event days.
Oh, the Olympus E500? Sorry, don’t know anything about it. However, GCP may be able to give you an insight into the Olympus system.
GCPParticipantReic,
I have 2 Olympus E1’s and love them. Nothing to beat their colour tone and having bought the Canon 1Ds mark II last month, I still prefer the colour that Olympus gives. Now I still have some more tweeking to do on the Canon but I just hope I can get it to give a simular neutral colour balance that the Olympus system gives with little effort. No doubt the Canon is a better image and beats the Olympus on that score. Now on the Olympus I only have the lens 14 – 54 and never change it so I cant say much about the others in the range but they do produce a good lens. I also have the Olympus E20P but have not turned it on in over 2 years…….presume it still works ! I’ll be hanging on to my E1’s for a long time yet. Pity Olympus are not moving forward on their professional kit.I did look at the E-500 at Focus last year and liked it very much. I would even consider getting one as a “personal” camera that I could have in the car all the time. Great back screen on it for viewing. I notice Nikon D200 is using the same
or a very close “relation” to the screen on the E-500ThorstenMemberGCP wrote:

Gerry – how are you processing the Canon images? I’m assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that you’re talking about skin tones when you refer to colour. If the various posts on different forums are to be believed, many Canon users rave about the skin tones porduced by Canon RAW files processed through DPP. I have no idea how the images compare to other cameras but having tried a number of RAW converters myself I can confirm that the best for skin tones is indeed DPP. If you haven’t already done so, give it a try!
RobMemberHi Reic, and welcome to the forum btw. I’m also using the E500 twin lens kit, but as a complete novice I can’t really tell you a lot about it. Personally, I love the bones of it but I only have it a few months and I’m still trying to learn how to use it properly. If you’re a beginner like me, I suppose the best way to learn about it is to use it as often as possible, post a few images now and then for critique, and don’t be afraid to ask for advice from the many talented photographers here on the forum. I’ve found that just about everyone is more than willing to take the time to respond. After all, we all want the same thing here: to take the best pictures we can.
On the other hand, if you’re already an expert, then I’ll be bending your ear for advice.
Hope you enjoy your E500 as much as I’m enjoying mine 8)
GCPParticipantThanks Thorston,
must try that. I try to keep the post processing to a minimum I suppose. Really the Canon is fine….if I never had another camera I would be more than pleased but human nature being what it is, buying a new machine can bring you outside your comfort zone and I know with a bit of finer tuning on the settings I will get what I want out of it.
In fact, on the Olympus E1, if you go according to Olympus instructions you get a colour cast of reddish tone. Its only by playing about for a while it becomes neutral. No doubt the Canon can do the same………just there are so many options in the setup menu, it makes it harder to get there… !!!!!LOLRobMember:oops: How embarrassing! I’ve just noticed your ‘amateur’ photographer’s website. Far from a beginner indeed.

Soda, sorry for late reply. I have been away and did not notice your post until now. I have seen that deal also and its really great…..I only bought one in Feb and paid ?1200.00 for it. The first I have since they were launched and it was around ?2300 at that time. In either case it did not include that battery pack. It would not be difficult to learn how to use it…..it is one of the most simple cameras to get to grips with. If you buy feel free to contact me and I can run through the best setup with you.

Hi Reic I’m considering this exact same kit for myself. I’ve read that the viewfinder is quite small. How do you find it? I’m heading into town at the weekend to hopefully try out a few cameras before making up my mind but its always nice to get somebody elses opinion.

That’s what I ended up with and I have to say I love mine. You’ll find mostly Canon or Nikon users here but I went for the Olympus anyway. I don’t have any problem with the viewfinder at all, but as this is my first camera and I’ve never held a Nikon or Canon I have nothing to compare it too. Best of luck in your search anyway. Hope you find something to suit. 8)
