Not Pete the blokeParticipantFantastic work Andy! Great composition and execution of the shot. Any more……??
RobertoMemberRobMemberHi Andy. Great colours, focus and exposure, but for some reason this picture just doesn’t work for me. I think that it’s simply a case of too-much-information, or too many focal points competing for attention. Is this a picture of the the water rushing over the stones, as in Roberto’s crop? Or is it the single standing stone in the waves, or perhaps the island on the horizon? Is each one worth a picture of its own? Some good elements here but the overall combination seems cluttered. Hope you don’t mind my saying so.
andy mcinroyParticipantRob, thanks for the comments, I always appreciate a bit of thoughtful feedback.
I like to think that the rush of the waves leads the eye naturally out to the pedestal and in this respect I think the shot works. I do agree with you regarding the headland in the distance. I wasn’t entirely happy with the fact that the pedestal lines up with the headland and would have like a bit off an offset there. However I think I’d rather have the headland than nothing at all. I was really pleased with the warm glow off the sunset off the LHS of it.
Roberto, thanks for that suggestion. I have quite a shot very like that already in my portfolio which I think is better.

AliParticipantHey Andy and welcome to the forum. I really like this shot. My eye is automcatically drawn from the bottom right hand corner to the top left.
Very nice composition, nice crop and great depth. Thumbs up!!richiehatchMemberI like it Andy…! I can understand what Robert is saying too… but on this occasion I think the content is quite balanced… I love to take seascapes and sometimes take very minimalistic shots with little content apart from a horizon and a few posts… some say they need something else, others think they are fine being minimal… Down to taste I think…! Regardless i like this shot and would love to see it printed big…!

carlParticipantHi Andy…. When I first looked at this shot my eye got pulled between the background and that strongly defined diagonal line between the water and the stones but then I found my eye following up and down that diagonal line. I think there is plenty here to keep the attention and the lighting really makes the shot. If I had to make one criticism and this is just nit-picking its that if the horizon landed on a “third” I think I would work even better for me.
Brian_CParticipantHi andy,
Love the image, lovely colours, exposure. I understand what robert is saying too. I think each element (waves crashing, stones, pedestal, headland, colours) could all demand a seperate image. But that said, I love the shot. Good work.
