I like the look of both of these, but cannot offer a critique due to the size of the images.

Any chance you could post smaller versions?

First one is lacking a bit of contrast. Nice composition and subject matter. Hope you dont mind me doing this to it:

In the second one I would brighten it up just a tad. I like the composition.

    Hi Sandra,

Images are at a much better size now. For the first shot I think Carl has done the trick and pulled up the contrast a bit. What would have really made the shot (in my opinion) would have been to have raised the hat above the eyes.
I know that things like this are not always possible, and its likely that some people prefer the hat where it is, for me, the eyes of the boy would have lifted this from a nice shot to a great shot.

I like the composition of the second shot, straight horizon in the background etc. It is however a tad dull, and perhaps converting it to black & white & boosting the contrast would help?

    Regards

Thanks all, I’ve brightened up the second image I think it might be a tad bright.
Kevin, I agree with you on the eye thingy but this child doesn’t respond well to orders so I just have snap and hope. Having said that he’s very mischievous and makes for an interesting subject.

Keep the comments coming guys, I’m not altering my photos before posting as I don’t really know what I’m at.

Heres a very quick & dirty version in B&W.

This was very simply done, just using levels, no layers etc.
