I’m going to bite my toungue regarding the horizon or I’ll start sounding like a broken record. It doesn’t detract too much in this style of image anyway.
This is a pleasing dynamic image although it lacks the contast that I think B&W work really needs. Although it is not always the case that the tonal range should stretch from pure back to pure white, in this sort of landscape image it should be close. Get yourself a copy of “Yosemite and The High Sierra” by Ansel Adams and this will teach you a lot about contrast in B&W landscape.
Composition wise, I think the sea channel makes a good subject which leads me in but the composition is somewhat cluttered especially with the stone cut off in the bottom left.
It is usually the case that simpler images work better. By cropping in closer to the channel you might have found this simplicity.

carlParticipantHorizon talk! Nope……. not here….. nada…. not a bit….nill….. nothing….. not by me, no siree….
The horizon is crooked……. doh!
andy mcinroyParticipantDeputy Carl,
Lets you and I put the challenge to the landscape forum, lets see if people can resist the temptation to post a crooked or bent horizon to the forum. I have my protractor at the ready. You and I will keep shush if we spot one. The first person to spot a new wonky horizon image will win a prize and we can direct them to this discussion. Perhaps we can give them the protractor and our badges then the game starts again.

carlParticipantMy trusty hot-shoe spirit level is oiled and ready and sitting on top of my monitor.
Let the games begin boss!p.s. God help us if we ever post one ourselves! There will be a posse out to get us!
andy mcinroyParticipantQuite right Carl, lets not be a vicitim of our own rough justice !!
I better take a look through my own webpages before someone sees something they shouldn’t. I used to be a very bad man.

photomanMemberandy mcinroyParticipantMuch, much better photoman.
Worth framing and hanging on your wall I’m sure.
Andy
CalinaParticipantif I may make so bold…
I like this shot, but I’d be with Andy on the contrast, and to be honest (hope it’s not my screen), it looks just a slight bit over exposed which doesn’t really add to the effect. If you do get an opportunity to go back there, it might be interesting to shoot from a slightly lower angle (I realise that with the sea, this is not always really an option), rather than looking down upon the channel somewhat. Is this possible at that location?
joe_elwayParticipantI like the second version. Nice and punchy for my tastes. I’d love to know what it would have looked like with a slower shutter speed. All that moving water on interesting rocks… could’ve been something.
