There’s something very appealing about the first one.
I love the light coming in the big window behind, creating sharp highlights in the hair and the steam from the coffee cup.
The hands wrapped around the cup puts the whole scene in context. And the natural laugh on the girl’s face gives a warm, welcoming feel to the situation.
The shot is a bit grainy and soft – but that doesn’t bother me in this case. I think it actually adds to the atmosphere.
And b/w is perfect.
Good snap, Sandra.
Welcome to the forum Sandra, have to agree with Swordie, there is definitely something very appealing about the first one and i think it’s the atmosphere in the shot. It’s just one of those images where anyone who looks at it just enjoys it and forgets about its technical merits. Very very nice. I love the laid back atmosphere in your shots, very nice.
The third one has a nice shape and composition to it.
But exposure and depth of field need to be worked on.
Here’s a suggestion as to how it might work. I hope you don’t mind me posting it.
If these are your friends, it’s a shot you could easily set up again. Use a shallow depth of field the next time.
