Golf shots…

Hey folks,
Over 100 posts and no images from me yet. The shame!
So… here’s a brand new pic (which I’ve also just put up onto my photoblog as I haven’t updated that for a while either):
I think the crop works pretty well, and besides a little purple fringing that I’m not fussed about photoshopping, I’m happy with the quality given the bright sunlight it was taken in, not to mention Nick’s straight-out-of-the-packet whiter-than-white t-shirt :-)
Also, just to have them all in the one thread for comparison, here are the other two previously posted (to my blog) golf shots I took that day.
Don’t all cry foul over the post-processing at once
Is there anyone else here who’s had a go at taking golf shots? From the afternoon I spent shooting with my non-zoom G5 from outside the ropes, the three above are about the sum of shots I was happy with. Will probably be going to one of the Ryder Cup practice days where the pressure to get another few printable photos will be on again! I should try to get along to some lower-key events first, get some much-needed practice!
Comments on my efforts are more than welcome. Who knows, with some good feedback I might post some more images in another hundred posts’ time :-)
Take it easy folks!
Dave.LoGillParticipantSeriously ??? 100:1
Firstly I’m crap at sports stuff (I’ll post some later to prove my point)… so take all this with a pinch of salt . :P
I really like it the first shot… and yes with that light and the white shirt the exposure looks spot on to me
Why do I like it ?, well it speaks of pressure and tension to me …his body language is tense and seems “wired” for competition .. it definately communicates.
Compositionally I think it would be better if he had more space to walk into on the right rather than left, – (Its a plain background, I think you could clone it to the right if you wanted (and someone could explain how :) ) Oh …. and sorry, but last thing I promise … I find the logo very distracting.
Thats all just preference really I suppose.. the biggest thing (and definate last thing) for me is that he looks soft !! .. definately lash a bit sharpening into it

davenewtParticipantHey, thanks Lorraine… I actually cloned some of the dark green background for the first shot already (he’s walking past one of the grandstands by the first tee, the green cladding only went up so far, then you could see railings and people’s feet).
I suppose I could flip the composition as you suggest, but I cropped it with the space behind him because I thought it might lead your eye from left to right. Maybe not, so!
I kept the logo in because of the history Faldo has with the Claret Jug (he won it 3 times). Without it, it’s just Faldo. With it, it’s Faldo *at The Open* if you see what I mean… but I can see why you’d find it distracting – it’s a little too close for comfort.
Less than perfect in a number of ways then – thanks for the comments, surprising how another opinion can make you see everything differently. Much appreciated.
Onwards and upwards :-)
snaphappyMembergreat shot love the third in particular ifi was to offer an opinion might I suggest cloning out the shadow on the right hand corner… only an opinion though great work
