Hello everyone…
Not sure this is the correct forum but sure what the hell…. Basically I had a quick meeting last night with my camera club (Mid Louth Camera Club) to finalise our programme for the next few months. We have included some ‘Guest Speaker’ nights in our programme but dont really know who to ask. In other years we have generaly asked members of other local clubs to us give a talk and slide show of their work… Over the years we have seen fantastic work from these speakers and clubs and I personally really enjoy hearing about and seeing other peoples work…. We have had speakers who specialise in portraiture, landscape, wildlife and lots of other subjects but never had anyone speak about sports/action photography. Have any of you guys any suggestions for guest speakers who might have a sports background that would be willing to travel all the way up here to County Louth (30 mins from Dublin….!)…? Actually I would love to hear suggestions for any guest speakers specialising in any subject….! I am sure some of you guys have enough of a portfolio to give a little talk…!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Regards and thanks
Richie
ciaranParticipantHe hasn’t been that active on the forum AND he’s from Sligo, but Mark Capilitan (markcapilitan) seems to fit the bill. He used to shoot F1 GP before moving back to Ireland (is he mad??? ) and he has some amazing shots on his website http://www.markcapilitan.com. In the sports forum, he’s also written a very interesting thread about the “Day in the life..”. Might be worth tapping him up?
BertieWoosterParticipantOne of the most popular camera club speakers on the Northern Ireland circuit is Kieran Murray from the Banbridge Camera Club. He lives in Banbridge, which isn’t that far from Co Louth.
ThorstenMemberA number of years ago, while I was a member of Celbridge Camera Club, one of their guest speakers was Ray McManus of Sportsfile (who brought us the Season of Sundays books). Very interesting it was too. Might be worth checking with him if he’ll do it.
richiehatchMemberCheers guys… i am going to look into all three and reccommend them to the club and see what happens…!
Thanks a million
Richie
GCPParticipantWhen I went full-time into photography and had more time on my hands I was asked to give a talk to Ballinasloe Camera Club one night. For me it was a disaster…….I knew straight off from the question and answer session that there was one little old man there of about 75 that knew 10 times more than I knew. I was nervious and very on edge. However, thay all enjoyed it and I ended up later giving them a 6 week course. Even the old man came to the course. He told me it was great to have someone else tell him what he already “thought” he knew. Still not sure what he meant !
MarkKeymasterLOL, I know what he meant. Its always nice to have someone else confirm that what you have been doing has been correct
and that you’ve not spent years doing things ass-ways :)ciaranParticipantGCP wrote:

One of the services my company provides is training and as such I’m unlucky enough to spend too much time travelling around the world delivering courses. What I assumed starting out and what has been afirmed to me since, is that no one person knows everything, least of all myself. There are always going to be people that have a little bit more knowledge than you in certain areas or perhaps indeed in all areas. You basically have to be confident in your own ability and in your own knowledge. Never be afraid to say “I don’t know”, never be afraid to defer a question to someone in the audience and most important of all, never bluff :!:
gedreillyParticipantrichiehatchMembergreat stuff ged… but the thing is I honestly dont think we could afford ye…! (didnt see ye posting in here before… a quick welcome… tis a great place to be…!)
