Hey Pete, interesting image, here’s a few thoughts for what it’s worth…
I love the ambiguity of the scale of this shot. It could almost be a huge man-made sculpture, or something microscopic… so the fact that it lacks a standout focal point (either a worker bee in the shot, or shallow DOF to make the eye concentrate on one particular part of the image) is a good thing from that point of view (ambiguity) but perhaps a bad thing in terms of the interestingness of the image, if that’s the right way to put it. I just can’t decide! :-)
As it is, my eye is drawn to the ‘insignificant’ detail of the tiny bubbles, bottom right section of the image, and the slight imperfection in the honeycomb structure, far right at the bottom. But there’s nothing to really hold my interest.
Might make a cool abstract though – with some nifty photoshop adjustments I could see this blown up on a giant canvas on the wall of a trendy eaterie or something :D
