Two smokers

MarcusParticipant
Not quite like the lovely model shots around here  See what you make of it. I took these two lads some years ago at Puck Fair in Killorglin.
MarkKeymasterYou’ve definitely captured some of their character here :)
I love the lighting on them. Good exposure alsoLoGillParticipant:lol: You have to love that …
I can’t help thinking a closer crop into the shot, up to the elbows maybe, would bring the viewer into their faces more and would be even better, but as it stands it a great capture, loads of charachter. :D
Lorraine
AliParticipantWhat an excellent capture (typically Irish)… I agree with Mark, lovely light – almost like summer twilight.
Love their position in the frame too – you must be happy with this one :)EddieParticipantSuper image, and i bet it will work equally well in mono. They have matching coloured boots, sticks and then the cigarettes.
elludeParticipantLove it! Great lighting and you caught a this shot at just the right moment!
AllinthemindParticipantThat’s a cracker. Love it as it is, depending on the quality of the capture, would be interested to see a landscape crop to see their expressions, crop with cigarettes pointing out of the bottom corners of the frame. Great shot.
Si
ThorstenMemberIt would certainly make a great postcard. Well spotted, great capture!

I never thought about a closer crop to be honest. I guess the quality may not be there. I took this in my “early” years and if I remember right, I used a 200mm Praktika manual fixed lens probably at f4. I will try it though when I get a chance.

Thanks for the comments – it’s one of my favourite shots. I think the pose of the man on the right is especially interesting. Did you see his feet and the way he holds the stick?RobertoMemberYes very nice photo witth good composition and expression of the faces.
Nice colours but in b&w (with warm tones) would come up more the atmosphere of the photo.AllinthemindParticipantMarcus wrote:

gerardkParticipantFantastic shot – you captured them very well. This looks like the sort of picture that would be equally good in colour or black and white just because of the characters and their settings & expression.
nfl-fanParticipantSmiled when I seen this… what a great shot.
“Irish” to the bone… a real classic if there ever was one. Might look good in B+W/Sepia too.
Class.

mehfestoParticipantGreat picture. Cant think of any other place in the world that a picture like this could be taken in. From the ‘spiffy’ braces, to the auld trowwers in boots malarkey.
Great picture, with lovely lighting.lousyParticipantExcellent ‘puck fair’ shot and very typical. No fancy sticks or clothes.
You’ve captured them and presented great.
