This was taken with an S7000 with a 0.79x extender. I’ve tried to boast the colours and what not but I’m still not too sure about the shot. Maybe I need to get back up the hill again in the near future. I would greatly appreciate any C & C, advice etc. good or bad about this shot.
The rock on the lower left could play a larger role in future shots. It’s got lines/edges that could work as a more prominent lead in to the shot. Putting it in the corner is a good idea but maybe bring it in a bit more so rises from the bottom of the corner rather than from the left side? The surface of that rock might look pretty cool in b/w after some rain.
This may be just quoting some old “rule” of composition, but you’ve got an almost 50/50 split between land and sky. This “rule” would say that it should be around 66/34 ratio with more given to the more interesting part. I say “rule” because rules are made to be broken.
I think you’ve done a good job on balancing it and bringing out the colour… much better than I’m doing lately anyways. I”m totally getting that all wrong lately.
Cheers for the advice Joe. You are probably right about the sky to land ratio. I had the shot cropped to get that ratio. However, the foreground was poor then.
