Following on from the Shield Bug posted recently I went looking for these bugs and they seem to everywhere this time of the year. These shots were taken today and there were a little shy (i.e. after the rough weather conditions of the last few days). All C & C, advice etc. very welcome.
Well you made a much better job of it that me :). Much Much sharper. In the first, the leaf above his body is a tiny bit distracting, i might have just cropped under this.
The second i think would look great with a square crop with the bug positioned on the right.
The sharpness is more to do with the gear than the photographer. These were taken with a Canon 20D, Sigma 105mm 2.8 and a Canon Ring Flash. The 105mm is a very sharp lens and when combined with the ring flash you can get a very good DOF (e.g. f-16-22) with a fast shutter >250 and plenty of light to pick up the detail.
