Fly Away Hair

We all have bad hair days :lol: especially me ;) A shot from a couple of weeks back
Good profile Ali. Think I might like to see less of a crop at the top and right of the shot though, to actually see the tips (or split ends?) of the “Flyaway Hair”. And speaking of bad hair days, I’ve just shaved all mine away again – a case of gone away hair :wink:

I like your conversion here,and the movement in the hair, wonder if you had got her to raise her chin would this have added to the composition? Anyways as always a strong image with a lot of creativity and thought gone into it.

I don’t think that Bens suggestion will improve the already good profile.
I like the tones and the lights.Thanks guys :). The model has a quite long face – i think if i raised the chin it would have elongated her face which was the opposite of what i was trying to do.
I find that with alot of models i have to ask them to lower their chin, i’m not sure what it is, the air of confidence or what,
but models tend to raise their chins the minute a camera is pointed at them.Yeah think this would be equaly great in full glorious colour! Oh by the way what was your light set-up as i’m quite fond of it. :wink: Any hints…
Ben 8)Hey Thorsten, will see what i can come up with :). Went straight for b/w. Ben, i used a softbox 45 degree angle to the right of model’s face and a snoot to the rear.
Works for me Ali, Just enough shadow under the cheekbone to show shape; nice line along the edge of the hat and a strong jaw leading out of the picture. Background doesn’t overlap with the tones of the subject at all :)

The name of the photo is about hair. I like the colour version because the hair is more dominant than in b&w.
lowing chin will not always make face appearing less long – it might elongate face and especially nose + make a double chin as well.
It worked not bad in your case because you were shooting from low angle. Although model’s chin still looks a bit heavy, but this is really not an issue for this shot. I quite like the atmosphear of it and I prefer a colour version.
Air of confidence in models is not so bad too. Surprisingly enough some trivial poses like high chins and hands on hips always work in most cases :DThanks Roberto and Tatiana

:lol: Don’t i know. It’s hard to snap out of it. Quite funny, i got some portraits taken for my graduation couple of weeks back and i went straight into model mode :D.
