Co. Clare

RodcunhaParticipant
This is my first post in this forums as i only got to know them a few days ago.
While driving today through co. Clare i got to see this nice little cottage and decided to give it a shot, i’m a very amateur photographer that is only starting now, so feel free to say how bad it is. This is almost straight from the camera with only a basic panorama crop done and no PS at all.
This was my second stop of the journey and i know that i should have more composition in the foreground of the photo but it wasnt that nice so i decided to keep it dark giving only an outline, in my opinion (very amateurish) it looked well in the end.
I will post some more photos as soon as i get my new camera and lenses.
andy mcinroyParticipantWelcome to the forum.
I must say that I love the colour in the 2nd image. Beautiful shades of purple in the sea.
You might consider a panoramic crop to draw focus to these super shades and avoid the 50:50 slit between the top and the bottom of the scene. 50:50 splits are rarely effective unless the land and sky are equally strong. Your sky is a little weak here.
But still a super image.

RodcunhaParticipantThanks for your comment Andy, i feel flattered that someone with your experience calls this effort a super image!
here it is with a tighter crop, i’m no expert so let me know if it was something close to this what you had in mind…
Thanks again,
Rod
RobMemberGreat image Rodcunha, terrific colour. And the crop that Andy suggested works really well here. I particularly like the jagged silhouette of the foreground against such a rich purple/blue. Nice one.
Rob.
andy mcinroyParticipantRodcunha,
To me this looks great, you perhaps might want to crop a little less severely. There is some nice colour in the sky and you wouldn’t want to lose too much of it. I was perhaps thinking to take 50% of the sky off rather than 70%.
How was this taken by the way? Fim or digital? Colours look a bit like Velvia but I’m not convinced.

Well you are actually right, it looks but it isnt, it was digital.
yet another crop option, if anyone wants feel free to edit any of the photos i have posted, i dont have photoshop at this stage so can’t really do much on the editing/filtering side.
PS: Rob thanks a million for your feedback.
andy mcinroyParticipantRodchunha,
Maybe your 1st crop was closer. I think what is confusing me is the black bar below your thumbnail image. It makes the foreground look longer than it is. I can see now that your original image was not 50:50 after all. I should have looked more closely.
Here’s my version

Yes, the 2nd crop was more like the 50/50, though to get the most beautifull tones in the sky you have to go to the very top of the image loosing the panoramic aspect of it. i like the first crop better too, nearly the same you did yourself.
