15 frames from a shoot.

This is 15 frames from a shoot I did a few weeks back. Size limits of the forum allow me to display it only 800 px maximum on it’s longest side. All in all we took about 40 shots. The first 10 or so were by Jessica herself with the remote control. She was really in good form and gave so many good poses and expressions that I just had to put them all in one image. It’s like every second shot was a keeper (Now, When has that ever happened… :?: ). :) I finished them in Photoshop with a kind of a photorealistic effect. Akin to Dave Hills style.

It really needs to be seen large to be appreciated. Click on the image for the full size (1.7mb 5970x1024px).

I love it. She certainly is showing plenty of character and obviously having a great time doing it.
Would look really great on the wall!

I really like the concept, and the expressions are great. I’m not a fan of the post-processing effect you’ve applied. I think it’s unnecessary and takes away from an otherwise excellent image.

Me too, the expressions are fabulous and a great idea, I think I would be tempted to go for treatment a bit more relaxed andlow-contrast/high-key.

I’m not sure I agree. It would not work on an adult image but it adds a kind of fantasy style to the image that works well with a child.

It’s certainly subjective, but if it were my daughter, I’d prefer it to actually be a photo rather than photo-realistic. To each their own I guess…doesn’t work for me anyway.

Denis. Thanks for your reply. The intention is to print it and hang it on her bedroom wall. I use an Epson R2400. I just need to afford the money for a roll of paper. :)

Doug. Your input is appreciated. The image is obviously all about the expressions. Indeed, it works well without the photo realistic PP. But I have lots of images where it looks realistic. :)

Si. Thanks for the comment. I wanted to push this a bit further than I have with anything in the past. So it had to be bold and contrasty.

Btw, Here is the full image that will be printed for her bedroom wall. I’ve composited lots of other elements in to go with her expressions.Click on the image for the full size (1.7mb 5970x1024px).

    Hi Dave,
The photo realistic look works much better for me with the additional elements. I think it’s because my brain no longer expects it to be completely realistic, because it’s clearly not meant to be.

Nice job! This is a really excellent idea.

Great idea and she must love it. I like the post processing with the extra elements, but without them I would prefere the original photos. beautiful kid who is very photogenic :)

I get ya Doug. Resembling reality is enough for it to be accepted by the brain as being quite normal. I think in painters circles it would be called Artistic Licence. :)

Connie, thanks for taking the time to comment. The idea just evolved from 40 individual shots, I’m just glad it turned out so well after all the effort I put into it.

Dave I think this idea is brilliant (one I may rob myself!) and completely befits the picture you built. I really like these types of shots especially where kids are concerned.

I think people are missing the point on this one. Yes individual shots are nice but thats not what you set out to achieve. If i was to provide any negatives I would suggest that pictures of the child are spaced out a bit more. Maybe lose a couple to add extra space. I would also lose the ground under the second last one to the right to retain uniformity.

Well done overall great shots and a great idea!

As Rasmith – I love the idea and Id love to get something like that done with my son in it.
Just have to find a nice outfit for it.

My personal opinion about processing is, that the skin is to plastic looking (like on a doll).
    Id prefere more natural look.
Of course there will be plenty people that wont agree with me – which is ok :)

    Hi Dave,

I think you have done a great job on this.
You have obviously put a lot of thought and effort into it.

I think it looks really good and the print must look spectacular.

I tried one of these with my son about 18 years ago with less
photographs and, of course, with film.
It didn’t turn out as good as this. :)
I resurrected it as part of his 21st book.

    Very well done.

    John.

RAS thanks, I totally agree with everything you said…. lol :)

Ola thanks for the comment. Good luck with your endeavors. Hope it turns out well for you. :)

5faythe, 21st book, what an excellent idea. :) No doubt the one you did of your son was a lot more difficult to create using limited tools compared to what we have these days in the digital world. Btw, Still have to do the print.
