It’s not possible to walk much when the weather is so cold. I don’t think birds look happy now.
Big FellaParticipantPeteTheBlokeMember+3C in Derry and my wife was moaning when I opened all the
windows this morning! Maybe I need a tougher type of woman.michelleansParticipantLove the colour in this shot.
and wow -17C!!! how do you even get out of bed in the morning? I’d be hiding under the covers (under the covers with a big jumper on as i type this actually and it’s 6C here) I’ve never been in -17C before, after a certain degree does the cold just feel the same? I’ve been in 58C and after about 45C every degree more feels the same to me..
PeteTheBlokeMemberWe had -13C in Derry about 12 years ago. It’s pretty chilly for sure.
Poor wee birds, Vera. Do you feed them?
lousyParticipantrandomwayMemberIt reminds me when I was ringing birds once in the winter in Hungary and it was -34C at night. We used nets to capture them and some of the small birds froze in the net while we were checking the others in just a few minutes it was that cold. I love the lights of a clear morning with the snow reflecting the Sun… this photo beautifully captures that feel.
VAubreyMemberPoor wee birds, Vera. Do you feed them?
Sure, Pete! I feed them as in the local park as near my window, but I never can capture the moment when they eat. One day (more then a year ago) I took a photo of a daw, he tried to get a piece of lard (I put it for tomtits sometimes). I didn’t have a camera near me and took the photo by my phone, it’s little and not good quality

I live in a big city, it’s always warm in my flat and it’s not a problem to awake. I don’t wear warm clothes inside my home. It’s even nice to sit, drink tea and see through window how people run along the street. All people run! lol
PeteTheBlokeMemberA friend of mine had a pet magpie when he was at school (cousin of your jackdaw).
It used to follow him to school and tap the classroom window then fly in and land on his
shoulder. One time his mother locked it out of the house so it came down the chimney!
I’d love a pet raven… like the queen of England.
