If you’re just a hobby photographer, and earn nothing from photography, then you should try to stick it on your home contents insurance policy as a listed item.
Talk to your insurance broker.
jKennaPhotographyParticipantpaulParticipantOk, kill two birds with one stone then.
I don’t know how anyone would not have home insurance. What if you have a fire or a break-in??
Go get some home insurance and then you can ensure all your home contents as well as the camera gear.
jKennaPhotographyParticipantwirepicParticipantMost home insurance quotes will show you what the listed items cover is costing on it’s own. You can then give that amount to your parents. Simple. And you don’t have to wait until the policy is being renewed. Just ring up the insurance company and they will give you a quote for cover until the next renewal.

We dont have home insurance at all so thats not an option im afraid.
Either way home insurance would only cover the camera if it got stolen from my home, wouldn’t cover it if it was stolen from me on the streets or anywhere outside home
Incorrect. If you have an item on your home insurance, you can have it cover the item for out of home (such as a bicycle, camera, etc). I did for many years.
I’m still stunned that you/your parents have no home insurance at all.
There are a number of insurance companies (Photo-shield, Adukki, etc) that are UK based but will cover Irish photographers, but these mainly deal with professional insurance (expensive gear, earnings made from photography, and need PL/PI insurance).
jKennaPhotographyParticipantpaulParticipantI use (and recommend) Photoshield. No idea about Adukki at all. No harm dropping them an email or giving them a call.
jKennaPhotographyParticipantjKennaPhotographyParticipanthermanParticipantHello everybody
I have no answer from PhotoShield for some reason…
Nothing works, PM, emails…:-(
Any idea?MarkKeymasterHi Herman,
Check your pm inbox for info. Steve is no longer with Photoshield. You’ll find some useful info in the pm.
Take care
paulParticipantBest current option is to talk to Derek in camerainsurance.ie. He’s a great guy, and someone I know. His current prices are about the best around.
