4×5 Camera experience – Help needed

  • Hello all,

I am looking to gain some experience in 4×5 camera, and was wondering if someone could either point me in the right direction starting off, or had some time to spend (time will be paid…!) for some tutorials or maybe you had some kit I could come and use (with supervision of course..).
I am based in Dublin city and will be undertaking a project middle of next year involving shooting on 4×5.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, either PM me or send email to trishutchinsongmail.com

    Thanks.
    Tris. :D

    Tris.

Welcome along to the site. There are a couple of 4×5 users here on the site. However for the most
part they’ve made their own 4×5 (jb7and Martin in particular) :)

Hopefully you’ll get some answers soon :)

have already offered use of my crown graphic but it’s a press camera so might not be ideal for what Tris wants so hopefully he’ll get other emails also.

    Hi Tris,

Good luck in going large :) The idea of large format has been a passing fancy to me on and off, but I’ve found getting a grip on things a little intimidating. One helpful source was Roger Hicks and Frances Schultz, who’ve written a bit on their website on large format (http://www.rogerandfrances.com” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; – check out their photoschool links) in addition to a book or two on the subject of large format. Both enthusiastic longtime photographers, they have written on many areas of film photography, and I find their style easy to read.

I don’t have any links to specific articles offhand, but if some come to hand will link them.

Good luck with the large format journey, and don’t forget to come back to share your knowledge and experiences!
