580EXII Master & Slave problems

I’ve two Canon 580 EX II’s and I’m having issues using them as master and slave.

I set one to Master and the other to Slave – straight forward enough. However, on test firing the master I can see a huge delay in the slave one firing. It must be a quarter of a second delay. The same thing happens when I fire it from the camera or use them off camera with triggers.

Any suggestions?
