    hi all,

Have you ever tried one of those lenses?
Is it possible to add a TC 1.4 and still have the OS or VR working ?

I have the Sigma 80-400mm OS DG EX and I love it.

Its sharp, the OS is top notch, heavy but it pulls the babes closer.
The TC that I have is the 2x tele. I should have gone for the 1.5x to be honest because the quality drops but on a sunny day its hard to see the loss.
Now, on the 1.5x and the 2x you loose the AF but the OS works, if a little less that usual. See, you are now at 800mm at the bottom end so the teleconverter reduces the OS to kinda half, but still works a treat. Now, the AF “does not work”. This is true but with a little mod you can get this all back. By taping off the 3 last pins of the tele you can get AF back, again, like the OS its not perfect but still worht the effort. I think you might have to get the Sigma branded tele.

K, sure get back to me if you have more questions.

Enjoy if you get one, I know I am.

    Thanks Grogg for your reply.

I have seen a ‘like new’ 80-400 VR , second hand for 1000?.
I was wondering if the brand new Sigma would be better (because of the warranty). I have read many reviews about those two and you can read both very good and very bad reviews. Have you tried both lenses before you bought?

I am no professional photographer, probably any of those 2 would do….

What are those 3 pins you can tape? I maean, if they are here, it is probably for a reason? NO risk for equipment or photos when doing this ?

Could you show me photos using the TC?

    Thanks very much

    Pik
