A boat and a pier lit with a torch

Did this with a torch for a light source and used a 20 sec exposure during which torch was waved around a bit with passing dog walkers and a jogger all looking bemused :)

Looks great. Must be some torch!
That’s what I thought-
it seems to be all about the colour here-
It’d be great if Captain Birdseye was there to park his
what is it, a longliner? Like in that book the Perfect storm?Anyway, it might have been good around this side, too-
And just what kinda torch is that anyway?
j
aoluainParticipantvery innovative,
Paid off well, love the contrasting colours, the coolness of the sky and
water and the warmness of the pier.coulld you do it on the other side to get a clar view of the boat as well?
Nice image
SeaviewParticipantVery nice shot, certainly more of the boat would help the composition but it was certainly worth the effort. I really like the colour of the pier against the sky / sea.
Dave.
AedanCParticipantGood thinking, you got the light nice and even. Very good picture and impressive torch too!

latchikoParticipantJMcLParticipantWell done, that works well. The contrast between the cool blue tones and the warm yellow works well for me. “Annie” hasn’t moved then
John
Mr.HParticipantLooks great – Might be worth taking a bit off the bottom? (not too much – just so the reflections leads in from the bottom left corner?)
Do you have a shot without the torchlight. I’d be interested to see the difference.
Gary
derrycityParticipantgreat to see annie is still down at fahan
well composed and i like the light
i bet you got a few strange looks
dcfishjam45Participantgreat shot, well worth the few odd looks you got anyway . . .
i might have to use that idea of the torch too, cheers :)
PitmaticMemberThe torch is a 2million candle power rechargeable that you can get in homebase or any garage.
Nice bright light but the down side is you wont get twenty mins out of it and I do have a no torch version of the shot which i will post later if you like.
I didnt take a photo from the other side as the tide was coming in and my wellies nearly got flooded as it was :) must go there again :)
PitmaticMemberAs requested a non torch lit version taken a little earlier but should give the idea of what it was like to get the other side in I think the tide has to be out or use a long lens :)
JMac-2006Participantthe difference is amazing – the colour contrasts in torch lit shot with the pier and the blue sky with long exposure really make it – as MrH says slight crop off bottom i think would be an improvement
well done
