A Country Churchyard

Hi Jenny,
This is a lovely scene and a nice composition.
The colour looks a little odd to me and the tops of the trees seem dark.
I could be wrong of course. :?Any info re the processing or camera setting, filters?
Maybe I’m just being picky this morning. :(
Cheers,
John.
lousyParticipantHi Jenny, I see what Joh is saying, however I like it’s pastel lokk. The only other thing I could suggest is, as I scrolled it looked better to me with a bit off the bottom…to just below the base of the tree. Other than that I like it.

shutterbugParticipantHi John, this is a five shot hdr with the saturation reduced a bit, trying to avoid the mad overcooked
look that hdr can sometimes give, guess its not too bad if you didnt realise it was hdr  thanks for
the comments :)Pat I think you might be right about trimming away a bit of the grass, more of a square crop then, I
think I liked the paler colours also, thanks for looking! :)On a bit of a hdr trip lately, I will be in recovery soon!
5faytheParticipantHi Jenny,
I meant to say that I kinda liked the photograph too.
Cheers,
John.
shutterbugParticipantDPSParticipantshutterbugParticipantThanks Sinead, the sky was really the reason behind the hdr, it always seems to make a
better sky. Thanks for commenting :)jodal1975Participanthi jenny , nice shot, the hdr definitely brings up the sky….i do think however that you could have pushed the detail/strength (not sure which) slider a bit further as a means to reducing that extremely low contrast/pastel look of the shot…as it is nearly all shadows are gone. a bit of contrast would really give the shot a bit of punch
shutterbugParticipantThanks Jodal, I did mess around with the sliders quite a bit, but just didnt hit on a
combination that appealed to me, I take your point that the picture is shadowless which
probably gives it a slight painterly effect, which if I am honest I quite like, I am sure
if I play around with it long enough I will hit on a “perfect” mix :lol:I have just discovered the Automatic bracketing on the camera and it makes it so easy to
take bracketed shots, so I am probably going a bit mad on it lately :lol:Thanks for commenting, appreciate it.
jodal1975Participantyeah im kind of going through the same phase at the moment :D bracketing is very handy …but theres so much extra work afterwards:x and getting the look right is quite difficult…sometimes the real hdr look suits . sometimes ,paticularly with landscape, you shouldnt even realise it has been used
ive added a link to a site i came across recently to do with hdr processing , see what you think
http://www.vanilladays.com/hdr-guide/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;voicuParticipanti like the composition jenny, but i don’t like the processing, i think it is a bit too much. i’m not saying not to convert the photos to hdr but probably play with the sliders in a different way. didn’t work to much on the hdr myself so i’m not an expert but for me it’s working only from 3 shots and the sliders somewhere around middle way from what the software gives me automatically. a guy teach me a lesson about hdr: try to convert a single shot into hdr using photoshop and automatic mode or default. after that start plating with the sliders. when you’re happy, save and compare the 2 photos. this is the way to see if you went too much or not. after few exercises you will be able to manage 3 shots in photoshop or other softwares much better.
shutterbugParticipantThanks Jodal, quite a bit of reading to do :)
and Thanks also voicu, hdr isnt everyones cup of tea, and I know it is very easy to make it look false or overdone,
but I am just playing around with it at the moment :)
Here is one of the originals with “normal” processing.voicuParticipantit’s a photo full of possibilities, with the right adjustments and processing one can do a lot with it. but i still think that a bit less saturation on the hdr version will improve it. of course, it is just my opinion.
shutterbugParticipantThanks again voicu, when I compare the two I think I still prefer the hdr, it looks
“happier” shomehow, like a pretty country churchyard, the normal one looks grey and
cold and “sadder” if that makes sense :lol:Thanks for all the comments and tips, appreciate it :)
