Wandered in and liked what he saw. Decided to stay and adopt us. Generally found cat napping in a bed or shredding paper…………..[/img]

This is Sassy, a 7 year old chocolate lab. We adopted her this time last year.

CASPER looks like he is really happy with the situation!

Love SASSY’s post in #2 Dave, looks like a cartoon character.

Have got to bump this thread, it’s too cute.

This is my beautiful 8 month old pup Holly. We rescued her 2 months ago.

She’s 43 kilos of quivering muscle wrapped in a brown and white fur coat! Big brown eyes that will make you fall in love with her, a sweet affable darling with abandonment issues and a tail that can clear your coffee table with one swipe, a ghusto that you could associate with a natural disaster and a bark that could resemble a foghorn. I don’t mind; she came with lots of free kisses.

That’s one good looking dog there, Michella… hope your garden is big enough for her.

Ahh she is gorgeous Michelle, and for such big dogs they actually need
very little exercise, something to do with stress on their hearts?

    Thanks you two.

It’s true Jenny, I can’t walk her for long periods, it puts pressure on her bones (being such a large breed) and if she doesn’t keep fit, her heart too. She can’t eat too much at one time either as she’s prone to her tummy twisting. So actually food bills are less than you’d expect too. They’ve quite a short life expectancy and prone to alot of complications. I can’t tell you how many supplements I have her on!

What can I say, she’s perfect.

Michelle, I’m sure you know this already, but feeding her 3 (or 4, she’s still just a baby) times a day, will greatly reduce the chances of bloat.
I know lots of people only feed their dogs once a day, but, it’s easier for them to digest the food if you can spread it out a little.
Also, giving them a bit of time, say 90 mins, before and after exercise, before feeding them really helps too. Feeding dogs straight after walking them,
is probably one of the biggest causes of bloat.

Sorry, if that repeating a lot of stuff you know already.

ProPlan make some really good foods for larger breeds, not the cheapest, but, worth it for a healthy happy dog.

She’s lovely!! All the best with her.

Oh thanks for the advice Sinead, it is very welcome. All the advice I can get is welcome. Though I had a retriever for 11 years, Holly is SO different to her. Yes, I am feeding her 3 times a day. I have her on Hills Science formula, that’s not cheap either at €75 a bag..I don’t know the ProPlan, is it natural, I was thinking of switching over to more natural food, though she seems happy on this formula, there’d be no harm in checking it out.
