A drop of milk
-
Mr. PaulParticipant
After the thread “encased in a droplet” i thought i should post this, all that was needed was camera, flash, milk, food colouring… and patience.
any questions ill be happy to help..
KellsParticipantGreat shots Mr Paul. As usual your work is oozing with great ideas and images :)
DaveMurdochParticipantinsertnamehereParticipantThese are fantastic, I particularly like the lighting you’ve achieved. I’ve meant to try something similar for a while, although I wouldn’t have thought of using the food colouring!
Can you tell us anything else about your setup?
np72ParticipantI like the colour in them, and the light and shadow in the last one is fantastic. I think they look amazing. I’ve never really done any macro or close-up work, but after seeing these, I think I’ll have to give it a try. And to find the right subject too.
Mr. PaulParticipantThanks for the feedback,
Here is a (blurry) pic of the setup.. :P
The flash has a home made grid over it and is on a low setting but very close to the milk making the light fall away very quickly, fired the flash using a pc sync cord.. The drops were dropped from about 12 inches above the milk. To keep the colours interesting i swapped every second colour, blue, red, blue, red etc. which helped to keep the colours in the milk separated..
Thats all i can think of for now, if anyone has any more questions ill be happy to answer…
Here is a link to my full set of milk drops on flickr..

darkness1964ParticipantGreat photos i would love to have a go Thanks for sharing your ideas .What lens do you use
Mr. PaulParticipantWell the flash gun makes things a lot easier but im not sure if i would say its essential. if you dont have one it would definitely be worth an experiment or two using a desk lamp pushed close to the drops while your shooting..
The lense I use is a canon 100mm 2.8, nice n sharp!!!
insertnamehereParticipantI have a canon macro lens aswell, although it’s the 60mm one. I love the sharpness of it, and good for portraits too.
CageyParticipantExcellent! I’ve seen something like this before, but nowhere near this sharp and cool looking :)
I’ve messed about with water, when i was learning the basics of exposure speeds – but never thought of milk!
MikkaParticipantExcellent shots there Mr Paul. I really like the off centre cropping/presentation as well. Every time I try this I end up with a lot of mess and very few keepers………./Mikka
