Number three for me here Spud, I think the sun is a little blown in the first two. Number three would have been a stunning shot for me if the boat had a little more detail. Well captured.

Ditto what Spud said, maybe you could get something out of the third.

Aye, #3 is superior to the others, and would be much better if the boat wasn’t so dark.

    spud –
For shots like #1 and #2, you won’t be able to hold details in the foreground without blowing out the sun and a lot of the sky. Have a look at your camera’s histogram after each shot and it will tell you if this is going to be a problem. If the sky is blowing out, check the left side of the histogram to see if you can darken the image any more without losing the shadows, too. But like I said – when shooting into the sun this is a losing proposition.

To do this effectively, you need to either (a) use a graduated neutral density filter to darken the sky and leave the foreground as-is, or (b) take a bracketed set of exposures and use HDR. Or (c) point the camera somewhere else =)

The first is definitely worth a revisit imo. I much prefer its composition to the other two.

Ah well, out of step again! :)
