A Good read for all the gear heads :)

Excellent read indeed. I’m ditching the SLR and heading off with my point and shoot for the weekend after reading that! Amazing shots too.
Cheers,
beefossie13ParticipantRobMemberseanmcfotoMemberI actually read that when it came out. My first digital was actually an Olympus C2020Z, followed by the C720UZ.
I’m debating currently between a Canon S5 IS and the Olympus SP550ex for my ‘in the pocket’ camera. Neither is strictly compact, but I’m having a tough time choosing. The Canon might win with the hotshoe and swivel screen (The Olympus shoots RAW though!)JMcLParticipantseanmcfoto wrote:

It’s got a hotshoe, and shoots raw
IOPParticipantThanks for that link Unal. It’s such a pleasure to read about a successfull, pragmatic approach to digital photography. I sometimes feel like shouting “it’s about the picture, stoopid!! Not the camera!”. But as I’m a gentle soul at heart I generally keep it in :)
One juicy quote from the article I thought was:
Alex Majoli wrote:Digital is something different than film, but I try to go back to the idea of what film could do. Film is more black. I need the blacks.
I’m finding that more and more, particularly as I shoot more b&w landscapes.
GrahamBParticipantExcellent link and excellent points.
I get a bit tired of hearing people say that you need this camera and you need
this F1.8 lens.
There be times when this sort of equipment is needed but this chap proves that
you can excellent shots with the most modest of cameras.Dave is right “it’s about the picture”.
I’ll hopeully be heading off around the world soon and some of the countries I’ll be visiting I will only be using a
point and shoot. Big Slr’s with white lenses, and big flashes can scare people and attract attention to yourself.
The Point and shoot comes in handy in those situations.DenverDollParticipantThis really is interesting…it makes me want to get out my Olympus pointandshoot and practice a bit with it..I never got very comfortable with it..might give it a go now…really should keep it in my purse..
Thanks Unal!!
