A little something from the weekend
-
cian.m.hayesParticipant
I thought I should throw up a couple of shots from the quays at the weekend. I’m really struggling with my laptop at the moment, the screen has a really tight viewing angle so trying to judge the brightness/darkness/saturation of an image is a real nightmare. Be as harsh as you like, I’ll probably just blame it on the screen anyway. If I don’t ignore you of course :D
All images available larger on my flickr. Here’s the full set from the weekend : http://www.flickr.com/photos/cian/archives/date-taken/2007/03/03/

IFSC House
I like the sky, I tried to warm it up a bit which was tough with the laptop screen of epic suckage. Did I go too far?
Taking up the rear
The infamous shot of Ali’s ass. This version (of the photo) is lighter than one I posted in the Events thread, I think it’s better.
Surf and Turf
Nearly stepped on this, shot it instead.
Windmill Lane
I would have preffered a little more room at the top of the frame, so I could get the tops of the windows in , overall though I like it.
GAS
This is my favourite from the day, it’s pretty simple and I had fun in the post processing. I’m pretty pleased with the results. I think it’s look really nice printed at 18″ square.
steelydanParticipantSome nice shots there Cian I especially like the Windmill lane and the Gas shot also.I think the lines and angles in the Last shot keeps me wanting to go back and look again.
joe_elwayParticipantGas might look _really_ cool as a constrasty B/W shot.
The IFSC one … too much small stuff/emptyness on the right half of the shot. Might be much better to zoom in a bit. It might be just me, but I prefer urban/architecture shots at dusk… office lights, streetlights and colour in the sky.
earthairfireParticipantNice selection, Cian
Love the Windmill lane and Gas shots. Just goes to show that you can walk past some amazing shots if you don’t keep your eyes open!!
Great job,
Tim
GrahamBParticipantThe Gas shot is the pick for me.
I like the “surf and turf” as well. looks good.Nice selection
cian.m.hayesParticipantThanks lads, I am really happy with the last three, pretty glad I came away with something in the end.
Aidan, I totally agree about the IFSC shot being kinda empty, I mainly posted it because it was different. I’ve tried cropping it but I can’t get a satisfactory right edge, I like how this one has a vanishing point. It would be a nice place to revisit at night, I’m not sure how safe it’d be though. I tried a really rough B&W conversion using the built in Windows Vista controls. I can’t make up my mind about it. On the one hand I think it’s a little more dramatic but I really like the range of blues in the original.

GrahamBParticipantI have the Gas picture showing on my two monitors. The one the left is B+W and the one the right is colour
I cannot make my mind up. The B+W is good even though it’s done with the basic vista tools but I keep going back to
the colour version.
I agree, i think the range of blues works really well in this image.
So IMHO, leave it colour.cian.m.hayesParticipantI haven’t had a chance yet but I think I will do a proper B&W conversion. No reason it can’t exist in both. I still prefer the colour one but I think the B&W is worth the effort. Thanks for the feedback

DavePParticipantthe second one reminds me of the scene from Superman II where gerneral ZOD comes to earth (the three outlaws in the black leather). I wonder if he prefers Nikon or Canon
Cool shot
