    Hi Grainne,

Well done with your first post and for having it embedded.

It’s nicely composed with an uncluttered background.

Do you use any post processing software?

    Keep them coming.

    Cheers.

    John.

Hi Grainne. A hard subject to get right. I find that when taking macro shots, it’s very hard to get the focus just right and especially when you have a moving subject such as a bee in the shot or if handholding the camera. You have done very well here, but the point of focus is on the flower resulting in the bee appearing a little soft. Also it would be better if he was facing you. Overall it’s a nice shot though. As for post-processing software, I would recommend Corel Paint Shop pro which is a lot cheaper than Photoshop (which is what most use) there are also free software programmes available such as Picasa 3 which is ok, but limited in effects but there are add-ons available too.

    Hi Grainne,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your question.
Somebody was working on the site and I couldn’t get on. :)

The reason I asked is that I suspected that the image was
    straight from the camera.
I think it is now widely accepted that most digital images
need at least a little post processing.
This may be simply a little levels adjustment and generally
    some sharpening.
Cropping and removing items such as dust spots and other
    blemishes are also common.

It is good practice to get as much as possible right at the
time of capture rather than relying on software to correct
mistakes or cover up bad practices.

miki g has mentioned Corel Paint Shop pro which I have no
    doubt is an excellent program.
I use Photoshop Elements 8 which costs only a fraction of the
full Photoshop program and is perfectly adequate for most
    requirements.
You can download the full program and use it with no restrictions
    for a trial period.
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_elements&promoid=DZHDJ&loc=en_gb
I think I paid around €90 for it.

Corel may have a similar trial option.

Most of the basic adjustments are quite simple to learn.
There are loads of online video tutorials and you can get plenty of
help on this site if you ask.

Good luck and a Happy New Year to you.

    John.
