A question for the cyclists

jessthespringerParticipant
You have to be quick around here Gigi…
Cathal, I was going to mention the fags earlier, when I on about short sentence conversation pace, and not fag smoking pace.
But, though that might have been cheeky :DI did one see a man cycling and smoking, he was wearing blue overalls and had one hand in his pocket, and he was half way up a steep enough hill,
on the road from Newtownhamilton to Keady (south armagh)
I cursed myself I didn’t have a camera that day.GizzoParticipantAlan RossiterParticipantAh yes…I see it now. PI on tour…
This is for anyone who doesn’t want to be seen in lycra
Nfl doing a bit extra to beat those up North
And of you do go for lycra remember black might not be the best colour to wear for vane reasons…
But there is a functional reason for it…
Alan.
nfl-fanParticipantI love the way photography people think… equipment, equipment, equipment.
You buy a bike and you need the special tyres, the special handle bars, the hat, the shoes, the glasses, the gloves, the t-shirts, the water bottle, the crotch anti burn system, the arse crack perfect fit system…
And then when it’s all bought, fit and ready to go… the front tyre is flat and they’ve no pump.
PS. Trust Wonka to come up with the filth.
Alan RossiterParticipantPumps are a thing of the past. It’s all CO2 cartridges now…catch up.
By the way – when you have your bike give me a shout and we’ll go for a spin.
Alan
nfl-fanParticipantCO2… the stuff that’s destroying the Ozone? Great… now we can all be hot and slim.

I was just thinking the same reading this thread. I was big into cycling when I was much younger, I had a russian sports bike, it weighed 23 kilos, it had half road half knobbly tyres to avoid punctures. I wore shorts and a white baseball cap on the warmer days… anything else is just consumerism. Oh, no, the helmets can be useful.
I wouldn’t go for slick tyres, you get a puncture the first time you have to pull over, there is always glass eveywhere on the side of the roads.
Glasses? Use your sunglasses, there is no need for “special” glasses, you won’t be doing a 100kph anyways.
Just use what you have, don’t spend fortunes on useless stuff. And don’t buy lycra, your missus won’t appreciate your lifestyle change. WHen I see people in lycra, always the Little Britain comes in to mind.. “The only gay in the village”
nfl-fanParticipantIf you’re buying a bike for fitness sake then FFS don’t go spending a fortune on crap… cos guess what…
It’ll end up in the shed beside the dumbells, gut buster, rowing machine and all the other sh*te that you thought was a great idea, used 3 times and then put away with the promise that you’d get back in training tomorrow.
My best memories of cycling where on me big red President mountain bike… and me old blue Raleigh Chopper (a classic)… I probably cycled 15 miles a day on those yokes in my jeans and t-shirt when I was a nipper and it didn’t cost me a thought.

knobbly mountain bike tires will slow you down a bit on the road.
..which is a good thing in this case… they want to loose weight as far as I understand.
Alan RossiterParticipantIt’s a valid point re spending a fortune. Remember it’s August now and the weather is fabulous (?!?) and within another month or so shorts won’t be the desired attire. Within 2 months it’ll be thermals so bare that in mind.
So, nfl had a chopper, eh? Where’d you rob it? And those President ATBs were something else. I saved all summer for one and got a black one.
cathaldParticipantFeck a chopper that brings back memories
I think they came out again last year and were all the rage againI got a pair of the padded lycra shorts this evening and they are a great job
I just wear them under my normal shorts for now as I dont want to look like an 18 stone twatIve just done 12 mile and feel ok,my breathing was good but my legs got sore
