A Rainy Night in Prague

Camera: Canon EOS 30DIt was a very dreary rainy night in Prague Old Town, but there were plenty of people about. I’d hate to see how busy it is when the weather is nice! Anyway, I was attracted to the colour of the umbrellas this couple were carrying. They stopped, just briefly, which made them stand out even more from the other pedestrians. C&C Welcome!

sndipoMemberDoesn’t seem dreary at all. Fortunate with the two umbrellas, add a nice touch to the whole atmosphere! Well done!

gotta love wet cobblestone streets!

Great shot – did you use a tripod for the 2.5s exposure?

Thanks Merv!
The colour of the sky was the result of up-lighting on a nearby cathedral, and very low clouds. It was actually well after dark at that stage. It resulted in an almost purple colour in the sky.

miki gParticipantHi Doug.
Great shot, but I don’t think a dry street would look as good as the lights are reflected nicely in the paving. Thank God for rain.
I can’t get over how clean the street is.DougLParticipantmiki g wrote:

I agree that the wet pavement really makes the shot. It was sure a pain in the ass shooting in the rain, but it was worth it! All the streets in the old town were absolutely clean. I don’t know if the rest of Prague was the same, but it wouldn’t surprise me. It’s a shame litter is such a problem in this country.

Unless you have to drive a car…

Old town looks nice because they try to keep it clean for tourists, but if you visited the rest of Prague, you would be really surprised… it´s something between Amsterdam and Moscow. Even the most famous Wenceslas Square (Vaclavak) is full of prostitutes, drug dealers and pickpockets.
JMac-2006Participantfantastic shot Doug – lovely colours in the building the sky, great composition with the movement of the pedestrians, especially with the pair of similar umbrellas gives it a nice finish
