I think this is one of those shots were a narrative of some sort would really enhance it. Who is this guy…what is his story…is he just resting there…or is he homeless … an addict…or just a few sheets to the wind…or none of the above.

Technically it looks fine to me…maybe a little soft around his face? Or maybe I need to wear my glasses

Good shot Ali, i reckon you are going to get some obvious cropping comments on this shot espeically aound the top.
although in my opinion it really doesn’t need it. The title of the shot really speaks to the focal point and really works in my book.
I’m a fan of this style of shot so i may be biased in my comments.
    Well spotted though.

No need for cropping either in my opinion.

    Absolutely brilliant shot.

The capture of the shadow is its strong point for sure. Well composed!

Nice shot Ali, I must have just missed you :) as you can see i was having a nice wide day..

Its a very fine image , and as already mentioned asks lots of questions, love the use of space and certainly no cropping required. The strong lines of the plain background are also a positive and the sharp shadow is a very strong element. I also really like the sense of space you have created in the image.

Thanks Robbie, :) It’s funny you say that. I had a bit of a narrative written – I decided not to post it for a couple of reasons. I think a picture should arouse curiosity and at the same time speak a thousand words independent of a narrative. If it needs a narrative maybe it doesn’t speak enough? Secondly, i refuse to pass judgement on someone i don’t know. I could easily have labeled some of the people in previous shots i have taken as homeless, drunks, down and outs, addicts, beggars etc (and probably have generated more of an impact) but I don’t know these people, so i’m afraid i just usually refrain from commenting on their social status (at a risk of getting it wrong) :? I’m delighted the shot made you ask all of these questions :) I ask the same ones.

Thanks a mil all for the comments :) Very much appreciated.

FreeandPhotographyIreland – I’d say you were just infront of me :D You just missed about 50 of us. The guy in the shot was in that position just before i took the shot.

Nice one Ali, well framed and toned. Moment well captured, he has a “Thought” on his face. Only one small thing and it’s a personal taste thing. The multiply border vignette is a little heavy at the top of the picture and interferes in the vertical lines, if you see what I mean. The vignette works well at the bottom of the picture. Nicely done daughter dearest.

You’re dead right of course Ali… sometimes the pics are better left to speak for themselves. I watched that video that JB7 posted the other day kinda agree that the photo itself is the narrative :D
