A Single Red Rose
-
Brian_CParticipant
First attempt at this kind of photography. C&C would be most welcome, good, bad or indifferant.
Alan RossiterParticipantThat’s incredibly sharp Brian. Normal replies to macros will suggest distractions in the background but I think in this case the background leaves from the rose help to frame the image. Thiere is an ever so slight halo around the bottom left of the rose over the leaf but other than that it’s a very attractive image. A Sony, I assume??
Alan.
Jay KingParticipantYeah as Alan mentioned it’s very sharp alright… but maybe a bit too sharp though around the left hand side of the flower…? Did you do much processing on it?
Love the drops on the petals…
The leaves, as mentioned, do sit well… but they do distract a little, especially the one on the far right. [/normal reply to marcos]
Anyway, I’d be happy if I took that shot… nice job.
RavenAshMemberSuper shot, nice and sharp. The droplets fit in well.
Would like to see how the the red rose would fair with an B&W background.Brian_CParticipantThanx for the feedback guys, I wasn’t expecting it to be so positive, as it’s my first attempt at this sort of stuff. Re: post processing. I sharpened the whole shot by 6.0 Gaursian, upped the saturation in the rose a little by about 7.5, upped contrast a little too and then desaturated the background. The initial idea was to do the background in B&W, but playing about with it I decided to leave a little colour.
I’ll try doing the background in total B&W.
jb7ParticipantRoses with leaves tend to be quite difficult, because they’re quite linear-
I find it difficult to get a pleasing composition with them-I think that increasing the saturation in the red could be a problem if you were to try to print it-
the red channel looks like its close to being maxed out,
and the detail is gone in the the brighter bits-Its quite difficult to get the balance right-
not an easy thing to photograph-
certainly not an easy thing to print-You’ve done well here though-
looks good on the screen-j
Noely FParticipantmrboswellParticipantI agree, nice pic – drops on the heart of the rose are lovely.
Don’t think the background is distracting at all – adds a sense that there is more than just the head of the rose there.
