Hey, im quite new to proper Digital SLR cameras.Ive got a Canon 400d with the standard 18-55mm lens but also a Sigma 70-300 lens and tripod. Im going to the Skerries races this weekend and would like a few pointers for taking great action shots. Ive done the introductory course with the guys from digital beginners that i got free when i bought the camera. Also if anyone can recommend another course it would be great. I was thinking of doing the advanced course with digital beginners.

Either way, any advice on taking motorbikes in action would be great!!

    Thanks and happy snapping

Panning action takes practice, lots of practice.

You would want to get shutter speeds in the range of 1/60, or even slower, but this will vary with the speed of the bike and your panning ability.

You may be better using Tv (shutter priority) and setting a shutter speed.

Other than that, trial and error. I’ve never shot bikes before, but have done some car picts. Images, and some tips are on my website.

I’m sure some of the more experienced photographers with bike racing can post better advice.
