Overall the shot is a touch underexposed (2/3rds~1 stop), which makes it it feel quite flat and dull. The only colour in the scene is the hat and the rest of it feels quite monochromatic, so it’s almost like selective colouring. As such, our eyes are drawn to the hat and not the child.
Watch your crop and composition. I’d rather have his eyes and face much higher up in the frame and crop more of the hat. As it is now, the hat dominates even though it’s cropped at a bad point (if you’re going to crop something, it has to look deliberate, here it looks like it’s careless framing).
