Advice on filter purchase please!

Hi folks I need to buy some filters for landscapes / old buildings and seascapes. I use a 5d with 17-40 and 24-70 .
Anyone have any recommendations.

Plenty of choice out there, most people start off with Cokin they are very reasonably
priced, but they can leave colour castes, which can be dealt with in pp, Lee filters

Would will probably need to get a wide angle filter holder if you go for Cokin P for the 17-40. On the 5D 17 you could get vignetting otherwise. This also means you can only use one filter at a time, normal holder takes 3. Cokin also make larger filters Z-Pro and X-Pro which are also more expensive.
A Circular Polarising filter is maybe the first one to get. Note that “Circular” has nothing to do with the shape, it’s Circular as opposed to Linear, which has to do with it’s optical properties. I’d suggest maybe thinking about a 10 Stopper, for milky water effects and maybe an Infrared filter. Graduated Neutral Density filters can be done without, as you can use HDR techniques instead, though having said that, I do sometimes use the ones I have. I use Cokin and Hitech filters in a Cokin P series holder and I’m happy with it, though I do also have screw-in Circular Polarisers for each size of lens I own. Hope this helps,
