Hi all, I’m in a bit of a quandary – I have been thinking of upgrading from Nikon D70s to a Nikon D80 OR upgrading from Photoshop Elements to Photoshop CS3. Any thoughts?? :)
Hope this is the right place to post this…MartinParticipantSodafarlMemberOrla
The camera if you can sell your own it will be a lot easier and you might just might be able to look at both.
Sodaorla_fParticipantMarkKeymasterSeaviewParticipantThe camera for me, it’s hard to take good pictures with CS3!!!!!!!!!!!!! That a side, it’s more important to have a good camera than good software.
Dave.
stasberMemberDitto from me, go for the camera. I’ve never used Photoshop. At all. There are many other applications with formidable processing power out there, all (considerably) cheaper than CS3. Unfortunately I can’t sing the praises of Canon’s free DPP to a Nikon user ;) .
If you’re an advanced Photoshop user you might get the benefit of CS3, in my opinion, but then you wouldn’t be asking for advice I guess, otherwise I see it as the analogy of buying a Humvee to do your school & shopping runs. Some people buy them cos they can afford em!
ExpresbroParticipantI think if I was buying right now, I’d have to seriously consider the new D300. I have the D80, and it’s a great camera, but the extra features and overall build quality and frame rate of the D300 would be very tempting.
Of course there is that price thing…..always the price thing…
Agree with the guys above…software would definitely have to come after the hardware.
GCPParticipantCertainly I’d go for the camera. Photoshop is only a tool and if you get the image taking up to scratch, you may not need Photoshop at all. I honestly think we are over-using and over-depending on Photoshop – (I’m including myself as being one of the guilty).
ossie13Participantorla_fParticipantThanks for all the comments – I guess it’s the camera then :D
Expresbro, I would consider the D300 (if I find ?1000 lying about  ) but if it is the same size / weight as the D200, I might find it a bit big and heavy. Hmmmm… :)
Thanks again everyone.
Orla.
