advise on how to improve this
-
gsxr1Participant
I want to present this as a Christmas present in A4 for my sis.
I am a beginner and would like your advise on how to improve it before I get it printed.
I know there is no eye contact. I dont think eye contact would add to it? Am I wrong in thinking this.
I was also going to add a little more brightness to it as it looks a little under exposed on the right side. Im unsure .
Should I keep it as it? Bin it? Start again?
Any advise appreciated
Winter1086MemberHeya gsxr1,
Its a really nice shot!..I really dont think you require any photoshopping on it tbh, I might have a few suggestions on the photo itself though. The backround looks a little cluttered imo, theres too much going on between the door, the wall and the back room. I think a simpler, plain wall backround would help a lot. Although I like the DOF, (Apature setting) you got here.
I think it works well with the mother looking down at the child, you can definatly see the pride and love in her face. If im to be picky, id probably like the child to be looking a bit more straight. Or at least to be able to see some of her eyes. If you could get eye contact from the child it might work well too.
Love the tones youve captured, very nuturing and natural looking! I would however try fill in a bit more of the front of the childs face and the side of the mothers face with some extra light. Perhaps a bounced flash or even a reflector ( or white sheet for lack of one of them!) just to even out some of the shadows!…
Hope this helps you some, but remember its just my opinion! :D

MarkKeymasterHi,
It would be better if you embedded the photo as just linking to it will prevent most people from even looking at it I’m afraid.
Check out the FAQ post here for help on that. resize-post-images-using-irfanview-flickr-updated-t34927.html
cheers

thanks for the advise.
I got it printed in 12″x16″ . So glad i went for a higher pixel 1000d cam now.
I also brightened it one click on the machine in harvey normans.
Cost 7 euro for the big photo and ended up being free when a got a frame for 25 euro. Very happy with the service and price up there in Naas.
The back ground was a little busy but it was an opportunistic shot at the time.
Im going to take the pic down from flickr in a few days as its a present.
I will use your advise alan in the future. much appreciated.
