Jaysus Aidan I thought you’d forgotten to put a CF card in! That’d be funny, wouldn’t it wexkel11??

That’s quite a safe, clinical image Aidan. Technically speaking it’s well framed, it has slight motion in the wheels and both riders can be seen so aren’t conflicting. Textbook, but it doesn’t hold my attention for long…sorry!

    Got any more??

    Alan.

Another technically perfect one but this one does grip me better. There’s an energy from the movement of the rider. You can see his effort without seeing his face if you can understand me and there’s a greater sense of speed.
Just for future information could you post your settings on this one? I had a lot of failed shots from my visit due to partially focused riders and trying to compose on a moving object – you know, that sort of thing. It would be good to see how you set up to capture these.

Alan, that one of #4 (green, white and gold) was as follows:

    Spot metered from the mud
    1/640
    F8
    ISO 500
    235mm
    AI Servo
    MultiPoint AF

As Alan has said Aidan, all technically great shots….sharp in all the right areas…

the third one is my favourite of the bunch….very clean and uncluttered…

I’d love to see a slight crop, taking away the tree branches if possible…maybe a little cloning even if necessary?

I feel that would give the bike a sense of further elevation?

    just a thought…

Funny – I like the few branches as it gives a sense of scale.
Really like the one of the 2 jumping with the others turning the corner behind them. It’s just that bit different.

And what are you doing photographing stuff that moves this fast? :-) You should do it more!

    Thanks Merv.

I’m actually torn on that one with/without the branches. I did originally consider removing them, but like you said, I liked how they give the impression of the height of the jump. I’m 50/50 because I also like the cleaness of the other shot.

I’m partial to the second two-bikes shot too. My aim for the day was to get something showing competition and action in one shot.

I do like shooting this stuff. It really pushes you camera technique and makes you think on the fly. I shot it a couple of times last year and enjoyed it. I’m deffo spending more time there this year if the weather plays ball.
