I haven’t posted anything for critique in aaaaaages, so here goes…
This was my first solo shoot with a model. It’s a mix of strobist style lighting and natural light. All feedback and suggestions for improvement are very welcome. Thanks guys.

jb7ParticipantI think the fourth one here is the best picture-
A little bigger might be better though-It seems to have the most relaxed and least self-conscious pose-
Colour is very variable-
ok if you’re going to pick only one,
less good if you’re presenting a set-
the shoes, in particular, are a different colour in every shot-I like the second also, though it might have been good with a little fill reflected from the main light-
easy with an assistant, and a right pain if working on your own-Good set, and worth it for that fourth one alone-

BrianParticipantWon’t pretend to know much/anything about this kind of thing but I love the last one.
johnnymcParticipantHi Kevin,
I really like this set of images. My fav is no.6.
Lighting is extremely sharp on my monitor on all of them, I like that as it really gives the model great definition in an area where there could be a lot of distractions .
Well done,
John
ExpresbroParticipantVery good Kevin..I like the lighting in these…very effective I think.
The one that grabs me is No.3 …love the detail in the foreground and the model herself.
I agree with Joseph about the colour variation okay, but I’m sure that’s just a couple of tweaks in the Raw converter to fix that.
Could you share your lighting set up on this one btw?
Cheers
Robbie
b318ispParticipantI find the lighting a bit hard in the first four. It makes the model seem artificially lit in a natural surrounding; as well as creating deep shadowns on the models face (#1 and #2). The latter two are much better in this respect. That said, all shots are very well set up and well taken.
If you are using these as a series, just note that the colour of the shoes changes across the images too.
latchikoParticipantThanks for the feedback folks.
I hadn’t intended on these being a set, so I didn’t try to match the colour between images. In some photos I tweaked the shoe colour to better match the colour in the clothes whereas in others I didn’t bother.
Here’s the lighting info for anyone interested:
1-4. 580EXII through umbrella to camera left. 550EXII through snoot to camera left as hair light. (And sometimes 550EXII bare to camera left.)
5. Natural light.
6. 580EXII through umbrella to camera right.RobMemberGood pictures Kevin, though as has already been mentioned the colour
variations are a little odd and don’t really help give the idea of this being
a set…Fourth image for me also would be the strongest. In spite of the almost
central composition it seems a little less static than the others…Nice model, nice location…
