First off, welcome to the forum Ravage.

As much as a fan that I am of tightly cropped portraits, I don’t like this one much. One general rule for portraits is to avoid chopping off the chin, which is what you’ve done here. Cropping into the forhead can draw attention to the subjects eyes, but cropping into the chin usually leaves “unpleasing” head shots. The next thing is the softness. I’m guessing at f4 with shot at 30mm you didnt get the the shallow DOF you wanted so you resorted to photoshop and I think the result is rather fake looking, with parts of the shot that are the same distance from the lens having differing degrees of blur added.

The blur itself was to draw attention to the eyes, which in a way it does, so good work on this. But then to have the eyes squinting and one eye in sharper focus than the other, it lets the shot down a little. I reckon the original shot is a pretty good headshot, so assuming the crops and the blur are all done in post processing, I’d definitely go back and re-work this one.

Good B&W conversion btw – nice contrast and tones.
