Almost a century between them…

Yeah, baby’s face is a bit goofball (and her hand is cut off), but it was pretty tough getting great grandma to allow ANY pictures to be taken of her. Simple bounce flash off the wall to the right.
JohnnyMcMillanParticipantGrandma looks good and the lighting is fine…the only slight thing is the baby’s pose and facial expression, but still nice shot
RobMemberRyan,
I quite like this, and you’ve managed a far better result lighting-wise
than I’ve ever done with bounced flash. It’s a little small to examine in
any great detail, but even at this size the catchlights look good, colours and
focus are nice and sharp and nothing appears blown anywhere in the
frame. As for the goofball expression, well, that’s just babies for you.
I’m sure Great Grandma will treasure this one. Nice work…Rob.
nolongerParticipantCheers folks… re: too small, you can click any of my photos on here to get to the bigger version at Flickr :) Nana did quite like how the picture turned out – she saw it yesterday at the baby’s christening, so I guess I did my job right! :)
AliParticipantThis is a really heart warming photo antifuse. The expression on the lady’s face is very captivating – made me smile…always a good thing :)
I think if she was on her own it would be even better (hope that makes sense).elludeParticipantThe lighting on grandma’s face is excellent – really top notch. Very natural, and I love the way it brings out the colours.
While I appreciate the significance of the age difference with the baby, I agree with Ali and wish you’d shot this without the baby! It would have been such a great portrait of grandma on her own, but the baby’s face directly below competes too much for the viewer’s attention. If you wanted to photograph them both together, I’d have tried sitting the baby up on the chair arm or something, so their faces are closer together.
Still, one I’d imagine you and your family will treasure in future.
AllinthemindParticipantGrandma is excellent…. Baby looks a bit out of place… As a familt photo it’s great. I saw this and was inspired to do a very old and very young,,, different stages of life etc. the dribbling baby .. grows up… becomes man… lives…. gets old… dribbles etc
Lovely character.

I *hope* little baby Ciara doesn’t grow up to be a man! :)
Cheers for the comments folks. Believe me, I’ve been dying to get a chance to photograph Florrie on her own, but she flat out refuses! Having said that, here’s a crop of just her:
GrahamBParticipantI think the point of this picture goes beyond the technical imperfections.
The point of this picture is to capture two generations. The picture is great,
it’s really well lit and really well framed. Any techincal short comings should be
ignored in light of a great family memoryAllinthemindParticipantAliParticipant
