American Football – Irish style

No problem lads…I’ll find out from Graham where the next game is on. Actually I’m pretty sure there must be some teams down Wexford way..the league seems fairly organised. I think their final is in Limerick or Shannon… the Shamrock Bowl I think they call it.

    As for the quarterback…er…wha???…hehehe!!

I’ll have a look through my other shots and see if I have any of some bloke throwing the ball…I’m sure I must have at least one..although I did concentrate more on the bone crunching get togethers to be honest. Never even thought about Quarterbacks.

I thought it was funny though how every now and then practically the whole team ran off the pitch (Defense) and a whole new team ran on (Offense).

That could come in handy at Soccer matches I reckon…

NFL-Fan is right. The dude throwing the ball – so important. Getting some of him when his arm is cocked back to throw and he’s facing you is a really nice shot. Getting the running back (the dude who runs with the ball) from in front or diagonal as he passes through the line or is impacting with a defender is a winner too. And a shot of the middle linebacker’s eyes before the snap … oh yeah baby!

There’s lots more to try capture … each play happens so quickly that you have to plan what you’re going to _try_ to shoot. The problem here is that only 12 of the people (11 offence and 1 coach) have any clue of what will happen on that field each play.

You know, if we organised a meetup we could actually plan this out like a TV shoot.

    Well… that’s assuming you’re not playing Belichick’s Patriots

Sounds like a great idea for an outing so. :D

To be honest..I knew nothing about this sport, apart from what I’ve seen in the odd movie. But with it’s stop/start routine it really does lend itself to photography…at least with the relatively close access that we got at this game.

I reckon with a bit more knowledge of tactics etc then there could be some really great shots to bag.

Also drier weather might help with low angles etc..there was no way I was laying on the ground yesterday…it was like a swimming pool for the most part..

I’ve just been looking at some of the recent score lines from the website… they are a bit lopsided e.g.

    Dublin Rebels 66-0 Rhinos
    D.C.U. Saints 44-0 Tallaght Outlaws
    Tallaght Outlaws 0-98 Cork Admirals
    Belfast Bulls 0-66 Cork Admirals

Sounds like we’d have more fun taking the photos than actually watching the slaughter.

It was games like that that made me stop watching college football on NASN and cancel the subscription.

You’re not wrong John…as Graham will tell ya…yesterdays game was definitely one sided..must have been 44 to nil in the end…certainly looked that way.

But hell..when you’re just there to photograph..who cares..

I reckon there are only a couple of decent sides..and all the rest are cannon fodder for them. But it was still interesting to watch.

    Graham..better is subjective dude…

That’s it lads… we need to start a PI NFL Team… I reckon we can take down the Cork Admirals… not only take them down… take them out… punish them… do what the Tallaght Outlaws & Belfast Bulls failed to do… we’ll take the Shamrock Bowl by storm.

How are we going to do it… SMASH MOUTH football… run it up the gut play after play… and use every dirty trick in the book to take these mo-forcans down.

    *LMFAO*

Well John..if talk can win a match..we’re halfway there….come to think of it..there was an awful lot of shouting and general male macho bonding stuff going on yesterday….so maybe…

Graham…I know…Pandoras’s bleedin’ Box or what??

    It’d be a Disney Classic…

Shower of fat, lazy photographers turn to Shamrock Bowl winners via the guidance of retired NFL player (that’s me, but this part is made up to make the story sound good).

    High Five anyone?

PS. First thing we need to work on is putting ‘Baby’ at the end of every sentance, and repeating the sentance at least 3-4 times. All American football players do this e.g.

    “Not in our house baby”
“That’s right…. not in our house baby”
“Uhh huh…. that’s right… not in our house baby”

    Ooooooooooohhhh FENSE!!!

Will there be cheerleaders with long legs and little skirts?

Oh and we even have a former Irish International as well…see above.

    We can’t lose!!
