Amsterdam, one dodgy camera, one dodgy lens-

I went to Amsterdam for a stag weekend.

I’ve seen CSI, they all use Nikon-
something about some software that verifies unaltered original files,
and I didn’t need that kind of resolution.

None of these will stand up in court, or anywhere else, for that matter…

EI604, on the flight out. Travel section, you see…

    Apartment interior-

I learned about this effect in college, but this is the very first time I’ve actually seen it-
true solarization, where massive overexposure produces a darker tone-
which can be seen through the window.

    Fuji FP100C

Pathe Cinema- worth a look for the forced perspective on the facade-

    Canal nightlife-
I think that’s the Bulldog Cafe at the bridge-

    And a frontal lobotomy…

    ok, enough for now…

These are mad Joseph, like, over the wall mad!

I like them, but I’m that way inclined, you know, to like over the wall mad pictures.
The instants seem to be completely off the scale in madness, maybe it’s the colour.

That first instant reminds me of Poltergeist, it’s as if they are going to be sucked into the light,
    never to be seen again.

Love the one on the plane too, and the canal. There is something quite voyeuristic about them all.
    I like that.

    Thanks Sinead-

taking a bit of a risk putting these dodgy pix in the critique section,
but the lo-fi section is just a bit too safe-

At least here you can say what you mean, and I can see you pointing your finger to your temple
and making circular motions- like, loo la…

    So here’s a few more-
and let that be the end of it-

I think I meant to take this, and that it wasn’t a mistake-
at least, it wasn’t a mistake before I took it…

    The Belle Epoque-
we rented this boat for a couple of hours, and it was the best thing we did-
    would thoroughly recommend it-

Interior, with our master and commander-
we were all on the aft deck-

Every now and then he’d come down the back to tell us tall tales about the city-

    the Oude Kerk-
    oldest parish church in Amsterdam,
just inside the red light district,
and currently housing an exhibition of documentary photography-
lovely big prints, well worth a visit-

    ok, that’s it…

For me, #1 & #4 of the first set are good. The second set is much cooler especially 3, 5, 1, 4 in order of my preference.
#3 in the second set is the winner for me. The shots from this camera give me motion sickness, but in this shot it works very well.

#1 of the second bunch is especially cool if its what you meant to do, but do intentions matter?

The camera effect suits the city and ” ‘shrooms on the ‘Dam” might be a good title for the set.

Mad is a useful word here – they do look quite mad, or at least
    some of them do…

Terrific documentary travel set, and it makes sense to present them
as a set, although there are one or two that definitely stand tall enough
    on their own…

The storyteller, that would be the standout image for me here. Wonderful
‘shot from the hip’ angle, yet the lines would lead you to believe it was
set-up and posed with the most extraordinary care and attention to detail…

    Terrific set…

    Thanks Martin, Rob-

I suppose the 3rd of the second would be a pick of mine too-
    at least at this scale-
    the others have better resolution.

I keep meaning to make the camera I originally intended to make,
but this one is too much of a laugh-

It’s a good exercise to use only one lens though,
reminds me of when I used only primes.
It’s a good bit lighter than a DSLR with a grip and lens too,
even including the film and backs-

Although this was my first ever visit,
I don’t think I missed anything by not using a proper camera,
there are plenty of pretty views of Amsterdam…

    Thanks again for the comments-

btw, Rob, the set comprises 60 pictures,
but they’re of limited interest if you weren’t there…

    joseph

    Thanks again
