An informal wedding in Tuscany
-
HelenMParticipant
Please be gentle as this was my very first wedding and definately my last!
My brief was for some very casual, informal photographs. I know these could be technically much better, but I am pleased with the ‘documentary’ feel I managed to capture.
Have to say the day was a huge learning experience, but in no way enjoyable! 30 degrees, humid as a sauna and everything running to a tight schedule.
It was a very beautiful setting in a 14th Century monastery.Just leaving the registry
On the steps of the Piazza Michaelangelo overlooking Florence.
And in the Olive Grove with a lucky cat
BrianParticipantHi Helen,
I think you did well. Did you do any post processing? If you didn’t, Picassa is a free, easy to use program that can make a big difference.
1. A nice informal shot. You could maybe brighten it up a bit. A bit out of focus, a faster shutter speed would have helped, but i’m sure you already know that!
2. I really like this, nicely framed to include the scenic location.
3. I like this, unusual. Maybe a little fill light would be an idea. Also, I would have cropped a good bit off the top and right hand side.
Just my view anyway, and I’m no expert by the way!
HelenMParticipantThanks for the comments, Brian. It was a steep learning curve. I take your points on board; really only cropped with Picasa very quickly. I will work more on the most likely images. The whole thing unfolded very rapidly and a fair few of the 600 odd shots had focussing issues! I really love the photo of the bride and groom on the steps.
Greatest lesson learned: never agree to another wedding! :lol:Not Pete the blokeParticipantHelen
I just had a look at the EXIF info on the top photo, to see it was shot at f8 in aperture priority mode, which gave rise to a shutter speed of 1/20 sec The slow shutter speed is the problem with the photo. Hopefully you learned this evening that putting up your ISO, and using either P mode or manual, will give you much better results if you use flash.Ross
HelenMParticipantAs soon as you mentioned ‘P’ it began to click into place, Ross.
Thanks for a really interesting and informative evening. Now why could we not have had that the week before I went rather than the week after?
I was so disappointed with all the indoor shots of the wedding and have never come up with so many absolute duds. Fortunately there were 600 to choose from!
