Shot at the Dunbrody Festival in New Ross yesterday.

This was one of those street selling guys…you know with the cowboy hats and those REALLY annoying bird whistles?
Post Processing – Dodge/Burn, levels, smart sharpen, desaturate reds and yellows.

Same fella again, except when I first saw him. This was shot from the hip and extremly underexposed (Had just finished at the gig!)
Post Processing – Desaturate, shadow/highlight, dodge, reduce noise, burn, sepia tones.

A bouncer outside a pub in New Ross. I loved the combination of the white collar and Anarchy tattoo on his head!
Post processing – Dodge, levels, smart sharpen, lens blur on left hand side, dodge/burn, desat reds and yellows.

    C&C me! :)

right, seeing as u wont leave me alone unless i comment on these, here i am.

First one is a good portrait capture but I dont like the post processing, i cant put my finger on what it is exactly.

Second one I like alot more, its definately my favourite of the three. Nice use of empty space to the right and a good capture of emotion in the face. Well done.

Third one is very good aswell but I think id like to see more of his face.

Still tho, 3 damn good shots.

Not keen on the post processing I’m afraid. I think that both 1 + 2 are promising had the exposure been spot
one, coz that guy has a great face for the camera.
Second one is interesting, nice angle, but the background is a distraction

On the last one, I think well done in terms of seeing the tattoo on his head positioned against his white shirt.
Its a pity it was on the front of his head ;) so we could see more of his face.

I’m with Mark on this one. Your post processing tends to be very heavy, which works well on some portraits but not others. For instance I really liked your bus driver. For me however, these 3 images are just way too overcooked.

Good good, I agree that the photoshop effect either works or dosn’t.

The first, I defo burnt too much.

The second shot was horribly underexposed, but I’m wondering if a tight crop will do anything for it.

The third, I like, though not many others do. I guess it’s more of a personal shot than anything else, which, obviously isn’t a reason for thinking its fantastic :P

Would you think they’re any better with different post processing, or is it the shots themselves that lack?

    :)

That’s hard to answer without seeing the original shots. For me though, an image is all about what is spit out at the end of Photoshop so I tend not to tweak images over and over again. What I see in my minds eye when I take the shot is what I want to work towards in PS. In terms of the shots lacking, I’d be of the opinion that 3 is just the back of someones head. These shots seldom work unless there’s some real sense of emotion (loss, lonliness, stress… something to make the viewer feel it too). Number 2 after all the processing is still horribly underexposed, so can’t see a crop making a huge difference. Number 1 is pretty unusual and maybe worth another stab in PS.
