Always had an interest in photography, but did not buy my first Digital SLR (Nikon D40) until early 2009. Now I own a D90 with a few lenses. The intention is to develop a fulfilling hobby for retirement (which I am close to) and although I have learned at lot in 2 years, I freely acknowledge that I have a lot more to learn. I’ve always liked travel, now my camera is the first thing I pack. I regret not getting into it earlier because I had some great vacations in places like the Canadian Rockies / China and Hong Kong, and all I have to look back on are poor results from a pocket digital camera. Have attended a digital beginners + improvers course (so far). I like landscape/architectural and travel photography (as mentioned) and especially interested in Dusk / Night photography. There’s nothing I like more than to take a day off and head off in the car around the country just to see what I can find. Not that confident with Portait / Still Life / Using Flash. I’d like to venture into Sports Photography in the future if time permits. Most of my working life has been in IT so I am reasonably confortable with the software side of post processing although I cannot afford the luxury products like Photoshop/ Lighroom etc. I just use Elements 7 for cataloging. Joined Flickr in 2009. Would intend to post some shots into the forum and welcome C&C. I’ve had one photo published in a book about Ireland’s Inland waterways and recently made the shortlist on the John Murray Photo competition on RTE. Alas no cigar, but my photo was shown on the RTE evening news, when they displayed a representative sample of the entries.

Great way to kick-start your motivation by having any level of media exposure that’s for sure! Looking forward to seeing some of your shots in the future hopefully, and enjoy the forum!

Thanks for the ‘Welcomes’ folks! I hope to make a few posts soon with some of my recent shots. Just trying to figure out the structure of the forum and how to upload …. think I grasp it though.
