Hi All,
I am new to Photography and would like some advice to see if I’m on the right track and as how I can improve.
I don’t even have photoshop so none of the pics have been played with so go easy.
Please feel free to have a look at some of pics here and tell me what I’m doing right and what I’m doing wrong.http://www.flickr.com/photos/34434793N03/
RaVMemberhey,
If you want have a look at the gimp http://www.gimp.org/ , it can do alot of what photoshop can do and its completely free.
though to be honest it doesnt look like you need it at all :)I love the 1st and 3rd ones from the top down. his or her expression in the 1st one is so funny. thats a really good capture.
Out of all of them that is the only one where the white balance is a little bit off.and the 3rd of their hands is a really wonderful photo. love the depth of field in it from your 50mm lens.
Apart from the white balance in the 1st photo, which can be edited if you took the photo in RAW, theres nothing wrong with any of them.
so keep shooting ;)*edit, if you remove the image tag’s it should display as a link
MartinOCParticipantYour photos are cool, the only thing you are doing wrong is not taking more.
A couple have unconventional composition but work really well, so I think you have very good sense. The photo of the baby being held up is awesome.
Basically I second all that RaV said.Martin
shutterbugParticipantWelcome Grant, some basic editing software is all you need to get started,
and there are a whole lot of free ones available, I started off with Picasa and
still use it, very basic but easy to use and with new updates available they are
improving it all the time. Just keep taking loads, look at lots of different types
of photographs, find out what appeals to you. Join a Photographic club if there
is one near you, (that is what I plan to do this year) but most of all enjoy what
you are doing :)MoongirlParticipantHi, a few of them have top of head / side of head / chin cut off, which isn’t normally a good point, but it kind of works in your photos here. So if you have composed them like this on purpose then its fine and I quite like them. The ones of the baby and the hand holding the baby are really nice.

GrantParticipantThanks Guys for all your comments and advice.
Jenny,
I took your advice and downloaded a trial of Adobe Lightroom 2. I have played around with a few of my photo’s now even though there is a lot I have to learn!Mitch,
Yeah, I intended for the cropped look. I am just playing around with different styles etc to find my feet.See what you think of my edited images and I’d love to hear what you think.
