Have to say pool deserved that win, even if they did need an own goal to help them.
First time in 4 years they’ve beaten Utd – everyone has an off day I suppose ;)

Alonso and Mascherano totally bossed the midfield and left Utd looking out of it.
Credit where it’s due, well played.

As a Mancunian; I never cease to be amazed that the outcome of a soccer match between teams based in two industrial cities in Lancashire could be of any relevance to people born and bread in Ireland. Anyway I fear that Chelski are going to clean up this season.

While their local teams, ala Cork City etc, fall apart due to lack of support. You couldn’t make it up.

There’s a reason for these things… same way there’ll be about 2,000 people at the All Ireland Camogie final… and 80,000 people at the All Ireland Football final… it’s all about the quality of the product.

Irish people have many ties with English clubs stemming back to the days when Irish players started to go to England to play pro football… Johnny Giles, Liam Brady, Ronnie Whelan, Paul McGrath, Denis Irwin, Roy Keane to name but a few from recent 4 decades past.

A lot of it is about heritage too. I was born in England and brought up there till the age of 8. My Dad is a Wexford man who moved to England as a teenager in the late 60s and followed Liverpool… I inherited my Liverpool following from my Dad.

There’s a reason why the Eircom League is what it is… lack of money which leads to everything else ie. lack of a quality product that people are going to commit to.

As for the England Ireland thing… most people on this island are so past that sort of mindset.

I was also born in manchester and i have heard it all before but at the end of the day why is it alway supporters of the other clubs in the league that think its sooo amazing to beat united and gloat? and you rarely hear of united fans casting the first stone.
thats because you feel the ned to intimidate us because your really just scared.

ye make me laugh because at the end of the day united has proved itself as being the biggest club in the world and your inferiority is your problem lol.

LOL… not sure what planet you’re living on Scotty… but my phone is hopping with text messages everytime United score a goal… and we even had at least one United fan here who likes to have a gloat every now and again.

It’s all a bit of craic and banter.
