It may be of interest to people that IAN RUSH will be signing his BUKE in EASONS tomorrow lunchtime.
nfl-fanParticipant*** Edit: Response to a thread by Guthri that has disappeared ***
The England football team are one of the most dire shower of underachieving langers of all time.
Every game England play they build up some form of historic rivallry wherever possible (France, Germany, Argentina). The play well maybe once every four years (last time was thrashing of Germany, think it was 5-0 or something) and then next day they’re going to win the World Cup. I just can’t take them… they’re crap.
See United drew tonight.. at home.. he he.. lucky they’re in a crap group.
scotty38886Membernfl-fanParticipantGuthri had posted something about the England team.. which he must have deleted as I was in the process of replying to him.
scotty38886MemberguthrijParticipantJohn, I was just saying that as we are both Brit born I thought you might be pleased with England’s performance in Croatia. On the other hand perhaps you subscibe to the Duke of Wellington’s view about horses and stables.
Engalnd are crap because they consist of a bunch of overpaid ponces with the IQs of plants. But, hey that’s soccer.
Cricket is my game and, believe me, England are more crap at that than soccer. However, I am dreaming of a triumphant victory in the Ashes series in 2009.
Mick451ParticipantDon’t think England are that bad as a team TBH.
They’re just not world beaters, which is what the press (and some of the players) seem to expect every time a major competition comes around. I’d agree about the brain power but it’s a fairly simple game so brainpower shouldn’t really come into it; same could be said for most sports people in most sports to be fair. Putting Steve McClaren in charge of tactics, man management and motivation was never really going to work, but that was pressure from the press to put an englishman, or even a brit, in charge – those that were probably good enough, like O’Neill, refused and those that wanted it, like McClaren & Allardyce, were at the bottom of the barrel. Be interesting to see how they do under Capello – aside from consistently playing crap against crap teams, which seems to be an Irish and English problem. As for Utd, we started pretty shit last year too – even gave Chelsea a 5 point head start – and look what happened.
Any Utd supporter knows from experience we rarely do well in the first few months, just like we know Arsenal will implode around January-March and Liverpool will win the Premiership next year (it’s always next year and it’s always the same pitiful excuses when this year doesn’t work out). For Fanboy: Wanna put your money where your mouth is?
scotty38886MemberAnonymousParticipantThere is one thing about the Irish (I’m Dutch, living in Ireland) that I absolutly don’t understand. And that is that after 600 years of brits in this country, who robbed the place of everything, and after Cromwell you all still manage to support English clubs. The Germans were only in our country for 5 years, but do we like to see Bayern win? I think not. And there were 2 dutch players playing for Bayern. Van bommel and the other bloke who’s name is gone for now. Great players I have to admit. But are they in the dutch team after they went to Germany?
nfl-fanParticipantSome of us aren’t bitter… and don’t harp on the past… if we held an entire nation responsible for something that happened yonks back then that would be a little bit sad methinks.
Plus it makes sense for Irish people to be attracted to a quality product such as the Premiership. The Eircom League (is it still called the Eircom league?) just doesn’t have enough quality as a product.
That being said… we get a good laugh when the England national team do crap… as do just about every other nation in Europe.

Only one, you’re doing well.
If soccer was at the same level as GAA in this country I’m sure there’d be a huge following, but it comes a poor third behind Rugby in terms of fanbase and infrastructure. Because of our history, heritage, good looks, brains and charm we developed our own national sport, it’s just not soccer, and it’s massively popular. I don’t know what the set up is abroad, but here most schools would and have been promoting/teaching GAA and/or Rubgy for a great many years, while soccer was seen as a minority foreign sport…something for the playground. The clubs here simply can’t compete with the foreign leagues (and I think it will be decades before they can, if even then) in terms of financing and infrastructure, and anyone who’s decent gets poached by foreign clubs while the Irish ones struggle to stay afloat. So, the question really should be why do so many non-english nations not have their own national team sport that supercedes soccer in terms of popularity?

Brian P ByrneParticipantWell as a Manchester City fan I would like to say a big thank you to all the Man U fans for supporting Man City with every drop of oil products they buy.
I would also like to thank all the rest of the football fans out there and even the none football fans as they support Man City indirectly with every oil product they buy.
