Anyone buy stuff on ebay?

I’m probably going to buy to Bigma pretty soon and it’s available on ebay for around ?830 incl. shipping.

Not too sure on the price ring Conns Cameras 01 677179 and they will give you a price.
In regard to the ebay price, have you accounted for possible VAT / Import duty when the item arrives ?
Some things get through, but some don’t. If stopped, you could be hit with in excess of 25% (VAT & Import duty) of the item value.
Having said that, I’ve never bought from ebay so perhaps some other users can share their experiences?

I have bought from ebay.. Actually i bought from that particular store… I bought the Sigma 12-24 lens for Canon… recieved it in 3 days…! All the way from Hong Kong… Saved quite a few quid too…! Its mad i actually got hit by duty exactly a year after i purchased the item… not sure why it took so long .. didnt bother me as it was only for ?35… they mark the value of the package as low in case the customs do catch it…!

I bought off Digital Rev through eBay in August 2005 on the recommendation of a friend. At the time I saved over ?500 on a Nikon D70s, SB800 Flash, spare battery and a 1 gig card. They ship and invoice through the UK so all import duty was paid……. I hope!! Perhaps I should wait for the same knock on the door that richiehatch got :)

Be very aware of the VAT / import duty subject since everytime you travel outside Ireland you risk being stopped by Customs and customs can tell from the serial number on equipment if it was an official tax paid import.
However I dealt with DigitalRev and was very pleased with the service.
Bought a Pentax ME super a couple of years ago – came well packaged and in the condition expected.
My only problem with Ebay is the hackers who continually try and take control of my account AND the fact that Ebay has in the past been labelled the world’s largest clearning house for stolen goods – so as always Buyer beware, if it appears way too cheap there may be a reason.
But there’s great bargains to be had
